Surat trader commits suicide with wife, 4-year-old son, jumps off 12-storey apartment

A 35-year-old Surat trader from Sarthana area committed suicide on Wednesday by jumping off his 12-storey building along with his wife and four-year-old son. The deceased was a textile trader from Surat city in Gujarat and took this extreme step because of a financial crunch. The police have recovered a suicide note from the pocket of the deceased and are investigating the matter. The note reportedly stated that Vijay Vaghasiya, a resident of Majestica Apartment in Yogi Chowk locality of Sarthana area, was going through a tough time financially. In this note, Vijay wrote that no one should be held accountable for his death. According to the details provided by police, Vijay had reportedly bought a new flat at Majestica Apartment and had come to stay there about two months ago. Apart from working as a textile trader, he was also running a cooperative society. The police have started its probe to find out about the other members of the cooperative and its exact work. The incident reportedly took place on Monday morning when Vijay, along with his family met his friend Gaurav outside the apartment for a morning walk as per their routine. After speaking to Gaurav, who lives in the same society, Vijay went back to his apartment to get his water bottle. However, a few minutes later, Vijay along with his son and wife jumped from the terrace. Gaurav immediately informed the police about the incident. In his note, Vijay has also mentioned that his business will be taken care of by his brother. Addressing the media, Surat Police Commissioner Satish Sharma requested to the residents of the city to not take such steps under any condition. He said that if the people are going through problems, they should contact suicide helpline ‘Jeevan Astha’ services. “We will probe the case and try to find out the actual problem. We will also probe if he had taken money from someone and whether anybody had been harassing him. We will take strict action against those found guilty,” he added. Source: Financial Express
