Bhatkal 17 May 2018:(Bhatkallys News Bureau) After Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) sweping majority of seats of coastal Karnataka including Bhatkal-Honnavar Constituency in the Karnataka assembly elections 2018, the party workers and supporters are overjoyed by reducing Congress to only two seats out of six in the Uttara Kannada constituency.
BJP which came to the helm of power in Bhatkal after a gap of ten years, had to outpower the sitting MLA Mankal Vaidya who was riding high upon his developmental work and had to face stiff competition from the MLA lost to BJP's Sunil Naik by a bleak margin of 5930 votes.
But what has surprised the political experts here is Sunil Naik has secured good number of votes in Muslims dominated booths of the constituency although the umbrella organization of the Muslims in the region Majlis-e-Islah wa Tanzeem was supporting Congress candidate Mankal Vaidya in the elections.
Earlier the local political experts claimed that Sunil has polled around 3000 votes of the Muslim voters with the help of his previous connection with the local youths.
But in a report published by local newspaper Kannada Janantaranga, Sunil has successfully polled over 9000 votes of Muslim voter and it has only helped him get to the power by beating MLA Mankal Vaidya by the margin of over 5000 votes.
However the discussions of the social media platform has had the Muslims denying any such reports who are blaming the EVM machines and alleged malfunction in the machines for Mankal's defeat.
Ousted MLA Mankal Vaidya meanwhile has also raised doubt over the malfunctions in the EVMs and has accordingly filed a complaint with the election officer to investigate the issue.
