Jalalabad, December 31: At least 15 people were killed and 13 others were wounded after a suicide attack took place at a funeral in the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad. The attack took place on Sunday afternoon after which a high-alert has been declared in the city, the governor’s spokesman said. Attaullah Khogyani, governor’s spokesperson said that the attacker had blown himself up as people gathered for the funeral of a former district governor at a cemetery in the city. None of the terror outfits had claimed responsibility for the attack, which comes days after at least 41 people were killed and more than 80 were wounded in a suicide attack on a Shi’ite cultural centre in Kabul on Thursday. The Islamic State (ISIS) claimed responsibility for that attack, one of the worst attacks in the Afghan capital in last one year. Backed by United States air strikes, Afghan forces have several times claimed growing success against the Taliban and other militant groups, including Islamist State, but attacks on civilian targets have continued, causing heavy casualties.
