Law seat aspirants from Karnataka managed to bag top ranks in the Common Law Admission Test 2017 (CLAT), the results of which were announced late on Monday evening. The examination, which is the gateway to premier National Law Schools in the country, was held on May 14. This year’s CLAT was organised by the Chanakya National Law University. Dhrishaj Suresh from Sharada PU College, Kodialbail, managed to get the 10th rank. Speaking to The Hindu, he said being a quiz enthusiast helped him strengthen his general knowledge, which came to use in the CLAT. “Preparing for the CLAT while studying science in II PU was tough. For the last two years, I came to Bengaluru every weekend for coaching classes. My mother, Rajani Suresh, a professor at a management college, and father, M. Suresh, an IT employee, helped me a lot,” he said, and added that he aspired to join the Indian Foreign Service. Combining academics with extra-curricular activities like music, Ananya, from Mysuru, who secured the 11th rank, had her sights set on law in her PU days. She was encouraged by her parents – H.P. Satish and Suchitha - both doctors, who let her choose the career she wanted. A student of National Public School (NPS), Mysuru, Ananya completed her 12th Standard (CBSE) with Commerce, Accountancy, Economics and Business Studies as her core subjects. “Perhaps I was inspired by all the TV shows and of what I had heard about the profession,” she said. For her too, studying for the CLAT, combined with her board examination proved to be quite taxing. It was two years of intensive studying. Like Dhrishaj, she travelled to Bengaluru on weekends for CLAT coaching.
