The first day of the SSLC (Secondary School Leaving Certificate) examinations on Friday was a cakewalk for students with many of them expecting very high marks in their first language paper.  Sinchana Bhaskar, from Sree Cauvery School in Indiranagar spent only two days preparing for her English exam and she is expecting nothing less than 110 out of the total marks of 125. "The paper was quite lengthy and three hours was too short a time to attempt all the questions. Nevertheless it was easy and I am hoping to get very good marks,” she said. A student of Kerala Niketan School, Venkatesh R, is also hoping to score around 90 marks in English. "It was an easy paper. I am worried about the Hindi exam now,” said Venkatesh. Even the Kannada exam was also quite easy, according to students. Pragathi, a student of Acharaya Sree Rakum School, for instance, is hoping to get 100 out of 125 marks. "The Kannada paper was also very easy and I attempted all the questions. I prepared for around two to three days for the exam and am hoping that my Science exam goes as well as this paper,” said Pragathi. According to Dev Prakash, Director, Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB) as many as 15 students were debarred across the State for engaging in malpractices. "Nine of the debarred students were from Gulbarga, three from Kolar and the rest from other districts. The exams went on smoothly in all the centres with no problems reported from anywhere in the State,” according to Dev Prakash. As many as 8.26 lakh students are appearing for the exam across 3,016 centres. The exam is scheduled to end on April 9.
