Bhatkal - 03 Sep 2011:A fisherman had a narrow escape when two fishing boats drifted away in the turbulent seas at around 1.30 pm here at Bhatkal's Tengingundi beach.
The incident occurred when two boats, Mookambika-03 and Mookambika-04 which were parked at Tengingundi bunder drifted away into the Sea when their safety ropes cut-off due to turbulent waves.
One boat was safely brought to the shore. However, the other boat in which Tulsidasa Moger (23) was there quickly disappeared into the rough sea and went out of reach.
As soon as the news spread, people gathered in large numbers and coastal security team along with a team from Murdeshwar Durga Parameshwar sea water sports swung into action.
After some efforts, Tulsidasa was rescued and brought back to shore. However, the boat is still in water at about one km from the shore. All operations to salvage the boat have been called-off for the present due to the high currents in the sea.
It may be noted that, no fishing activity has taken place as the water level in the sea is high due to heavy rain from the past seven days.
