Strike against worst condition of NH 17 held

Bhatkal - Despite the assurances and promises by the Highway Authority to start repair work of NH 17, the condition is becoming worst and worst with every passing day. To protest against this, large number of angry residents of Bhatkal held massive protest at Shamsuddin Circle, Bhatkal and blocked the traffic for about an hour. Due to this long queues of vehicles were observed at NH 17. The strike was supported by several non-govt organizations of Bhatkal including Tanzeem, Seva Vahini, Rickshaw Union and social workers. Later the protest was converted into a dharna outside AC office and a memorandum was submitted to Bhatkal AC Dr Anuradh demanding immediate repair of NH 17.

The strike was called-off after the assurance from Highway Engineer to start patchwork from 10th November and laying of new roads from 30th November.
