Strike against road: Buses to remain off NH 17 on Oct 27

Mangalore - All city, service and inter-state buses will keep off the roads on Wednesday, October 27 seeking immediate repairs of NH 17 from Mulki to Thokkottu.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting convened by Dakshina Kannada Zilla Karmika Parishat Bus Naukarara Sangha on Saturday.

The Sangha will take out a padayatra from Nanthoor to Talapady, stretch of NH17 that is in highly unmotorable condition.

Ivan D'Souza, president said the organisation has sought support from bus owners for this proposed bus bandh.

In fact, the poor condition of National Highway 17 in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts has drawn the attention of Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia during his visit to Manipal in November 2009. In his convocation address, he did mention the poor condition of NH-17.
