State govt to utilize temple donations for flood relief

Bengaluru: The state government has decided to use temple donations to fund the ongoing flood rescue and relief operations in the state. The Muzrai Department on August 21, issued an order to transfer Rs 12.3 Crores from 81 temples under its control for the purpose. Temple administrations have been instructed to deposit varying amounts into the account of the department. Kukke Subramanya Temple has been asked to contribute the highest amount of Rs 3 Crore, whereas Kollur Mookambika Temple and Chamundeshwary Temple in Mysuru have been asked to pay Rs 1 crore each. Kateel Durgaparameshwari Temple has been asked to deposit Rs 75 lakh for the noble cause. The amount varies between Rs 25,000 and Rs 50 lakh for other temples. The state Muzrai minister Rajshekhar Basavraj Patil has also instructed to install separate donation boxes at the temple premises for collecting donations for the relief works. Source: News Karnataka
