SSLC exams: State issues fresh guidelines
01:53PM Sun 20 Jun, 2021
The Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB) has finalised the SSLC exam guidelines. As per the latest guidelines, a student scoring 90 to 100 marks will be declared as ‘A+’ grade, 80-89 as ‘A’, 60-79-’B’ and 35 to 59 as ‘C’ grade. The report cards will print the grades along with marks scored by the students.
Unlike previous years, this year, the SSLC exam will be held only for two days. For each day, students will write three subjects in a combined question paper for 120 marks. Core subjects (Science, Social Science and Mathematics) consist of one paper and languages (first, second and third) forms the second paper. The exam will be held for three hours between 10.30 am to 1.30 pm with a few days of gap between the first and second papers.
In addition to this, each subject will have 40 marks. For evaluation purposes, these marks will be converted to 80 marks per subject. The internal assessment marks will be added and the results will be tabulated for a maximum of 625 marks. As announced earlier, the exams will be objective with multiple choice questions (MCQs).
Around 8,76,595 students from 14,927 schools (including 6,247 unaided schools) are expected to write the SSLC papers. An official said, “Though there was demand to conduct a school-level exam, we decided against it as it would be difficult to transport question papers and ensure its safety.” This year, the exam centres will be doubled from 3,000 to 6,000 with a maximum of 100 students per exam centre and 12 students per room with only one student per desk.
The exact dates are yet to be announced. However, Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar said that the exams are likely to be held in the third week of July.
‘Marks for II PU’
An expert committee has suggested providing marks instead of grades. The experts feel that grading may affect students in getting jobs.
