SR100bn Makkah project ‘must be finished on time’

Makkah:  Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal yesterday urged all parties involved in the implementation of the SR100 billion Makkah development project, including contractors, to finish the job without delay. “You have to work with the spirit of a single team while coordinating activities related to design and implementation in order to complete the project on schedule,” the governor told government officials. Prince Khaled made this statement while presiding over a meeting of the executive committee of the project, which is named after Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah. King Abdullah laid the foundation in 2011 for the largest expansion of the Grand Mosque in Makkah, which will increase its capacity to 2.5 million worshippers. The project is expected to cost SR80 billion. During the meeting, Parsons, consultants, gave a presentation on the project that includes new ring roads to facilitate traffic in the holy city, construction of parking lots and a metro train system that will be linked with Mashair and Haramain Railways. The project, which will change the face of Makkah, includes construction of more flyovers and a number of intersections with major roads to ease traffic in the city. Arab News
