Chikkaballapura: A traffic cop, who pulled up a Udupi native for riding helmetless on November 12 was left flabbergasted when the youth reportedly removed a blood-stained knife out of his pocket when asked to produce his license.
The angered constable, Venu demanded to know why the youth Sandeep Shetty (26) was pointing the knife at him and the answer only left him shocked further.
Sandeep while apologising to Venu, for the traffic violation, confessed to riding his two-wheeler in a trance after having stabbed his friend Devraj and that he was proceeding to the police station to surrender for the crime.
According to Chikkaballapura Town Police officials, Devraj had secured a loan from Sandeep, for the purpose of buying a plot with an assurance of returning the principal with interest amount upon sale of the land. However, he had not returned the money to Sandeep even after two years. A confrontation took place between the two over the issue on November 12 evening and Sandeep was angered at Devraj's denial to pay him the money. In a fit of rage, he stabbed Devraj and fled from the scene.
Devraj was rushed to a hospital by neighbours and nearby shop owners who were alerted by his screams.
Devraj is currently undergoing his treatment in Bengaluru, informed sources.
Meanwhile, a case of attempt to murder has been registered against Sandeep at the Chikkaballapura Town Police Station.
