Son files case against father on mother's suicide

Bengaluru: After a woman fell off the 16th floor of an apartment, the police had ruled it as a accident. Her son has now informed the police that the woman unferwent torture from her husband which would have forced her taking this extreme step. The police, who had earlier registered a case of unnatural death, later registered a case of abetment to suicide against Devendra Bhatia, 48, under 306 of the Indian Penal Code based on the complaint filed by the son of the deceased. Kiran Bhatia had fallen off from her apartment in the last week of August. The police had mentioned it to be an unnatural death. “It is alleged that the complainant’s kin had utilised the fact that he was emotionally broken on the fateful day and they are alleged to have forced him to provide statements which were not true and were according to what they wanted,” said an officer. The complainant, Harshal Bhatia requested the police to reopen the case against his father. Harshal has alleged that his father’s behaviour was harsh since the last few years. The complainant has accused his father of creating disputes over the smallest of things and of beating Kiran. He has also said that his father had once dragged his mother from the bed to the kitchen by her hair because she asked him to make his own tea as she was sick. “Due to such actions, the complainant feels that he is unsafe with his father. Harshal and his sister are also said to have insisted to their mother that she divorce her husband, but she always refused,” the officer added.
