Six fishermen rescued from capsized boat

Udupi/Uttara Kannada: Six fishermen were rescued by members of another fishing boat after their boat capsized off Gangolli coast on Wednesday. The fishing boat, belonging to Jayalakshmi of Kodi Kanyana had set sail from Malpe towards Gangolli on January 12 night. On Wednesday the vessel’s hull got damaged and water began gushing in. The boat captain Venkatesh Harikanth immediately contacted neighbouring fishing boats for rescue over a wireless device. Another boat rushed to the spot and rescued the crew members namely – Venkatesh Harikanth, Nandeesh Kharvi, Santhosh, Huliyappa, Durgappa Harikanth and Annappa Harikanth, all from Kumta and Honnavar taluks of Uttara Kannada district. The boat remained in the partially submerged condition. Efforts to pull the boat to the shore went in vain it is gathered. The owner suffered an estimated loss of Rs 10 lakh.
