Shringeri shoot-out: ANF cop gets bail

Chikmagalur: The Chikmagalur Magistrate Court has granted conditional bail to ANF constable Naveen Naik who was arrested in  connection with the shoot-out at Tanikodu check-post near Shringeri wherein a cattle trader named Kabeer was gunned down. It is learnt, during the hearing,  Naveen Naik told the court that  the ANF personnel inspect every vehicle at the Thanikodu check-post as it is in an area where Naxals are active. He also reportedly told that  the cattle trader was fired at  suspecting him to be  a Naxal as he and others with him  did not allow inspection of their vehicle.  Naik also reportedly told the court  that though the aim was to hit his leg it misfired  and hit his chest resulting in his death. The incident had taken place on April 19 and had created much furore. Karnataka News
