MANGALURU: The pre-monsoon showers will continue for another two days in the coast. Sundar Metri, director, India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bengaluru, said that the prevailing conditions have seen the coast getting good showers, and this will last for a few days more. The result of the pre-monsoon showers left the city cooler at 32.9°C, which is the average normal maximum temperature for April. The minimum too was at 25°C, which is the average normal minimum temperature for April. Meanwhile, the rains that began on Tuesday have continued to wreak havoc. On Wednesday, the earth below the Padil-Bajal rail overbridge sunk forcing the railways to run trains on the alternate route. Due to this the trains going towards Hassan have to change tracks first at Mangaluru Junction and then move on the Thokuru line, change tracks, and then go towards Hassan. The incident took place 25 minutes after the 3.55pm Subrahmanya - Mangaluru Central passenger train passed the track. In Udupi, the rain and gusty winds left All India Radio's two signal repeater towers damaged at Brahmavar. These towers, 108m high, were installed in 1982 and did not cause damage to any other property when they crashed. Due to this, there has been no transmission in Brahmavar area. The temporary towers will be set up soon and technical experts from Chennai will arrive to fix it. At Bantwal, the earth piled up near the second bridge — that is under construction on BC Road — ran into many shops and left the area in a mess. -TOI
