Shams School students visit Chitrapur Math, gift copies of Holy Qur'an to priests

June 24, 2016 | Correspondent | Bhatkallys News Bhatkal: Grade 10 Students of New Shams School visited the historical Shri Chitrapur Math in Shirali on Thursday and gifted copies of translation of Holy Qu'ran in Kannada language as part of their Dawah Project. On this occasion, the temple's priests, Nagesh Bhat Haldipur and Harish Bhat Mangaluru, welcomed the students and provided historical information about the temple. The temple's trustee Subhash Kopikar expressed happiness on the students' visit and said that this is the first ever visit paid by students of a Muslim-run institution. Conveying the core aspects of Islamic teachings, the school's Secretary Talha Siddibapa said that Islam prohibits abusing or ridiculing religious deities of other faiths. Highlighting the purpose of the visit, Mohammed Raza Manvi said such visits are significant to maintain unity and brotherhood and to prevent new generation from developing a terrorist mindset. Shri Chitrapur Math is the central Math (community temple) for the Chitrapur Saraswat Brahmin sect. This Math is located at Shirali in the North Kanara district of Karnataka and has been there since 1757. - ARF
