Bengaluru: Hundreds of Engineering graduates from the state, especially those who studied in colleges in Tier II cities, have been waiting for their joining dates from IT giant Infosys for years after being selected in campus recruitments. The students say that this was the reason why many prestigious colleges in the city have stopped inviting the company for recruitments in their institutes.
Ganesh Bhat (name changed), who passed out from a prestigious engineering college of Mangalore in 2011, said he had been waiting for his joining date for the past one-and-a-half-years. “I have been waiting for a word from the company every day. My seniors in other companies were given joining dates immediately after completing their engineering course. As I was placed in Infosys I didn’t apply elsewhere. Now people say that I need to wait at least till May,” he told this newspaper.
Raghavendra Gowda, (name changed), a B.E graduate from a prestigious college in Bengaluru, said he was facing a similar problem. “I have been trying to contact the recruiters for a long time, but haven’t got any satisfactory reply from their end,” he said.
Hundreds of Engineering graduates from Tier II cities of the state are facing a similar problem. Even though they are not complaining against the company, they are worried about their future following news reports that say the IT major is laying off thousands of poor performers.
Speaking to this newspaper, the principal of a city Engineering college said that many institutes of the city were not allowing Infosys to conduct campus recruitments due to this problem. “The company might going through problems. But it is not fair on their part to make the students wait for years,” he said. Infosys authorities could not be contacted.
