Schools and government offices closed on Sunday

Jeddah: Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman announced on Saturday that schools and educational institutions would remain closed on Sunday to allow people to mourn the death of King Abdullah who died on Friday. Government offices will also be closed. The one-day off is for all government and expat schools, colleges and universities in the Kingdom. Abdullah Al-Thaqafi, director of the Education Department in Jeddah, told Arab News schools would only be off for one day and that educational institutions would work on Monday like normal, in accordance with the royal statement. International Indian School-Jeddah (IISJ) Principal Syed Masood confirmed to Arab News that there would be no school on Sunday. "I have asked my assistants to inform all parents via text messages about the holiday," he told Arab News. Gharnatah School in Jeddah also confirmed that it would remain closed on Sunday. It sent SMSs to parents informing them about the holiday. Muhammed Tanveer, principal of Pakistan International School, Riyadh, and Shaukat Perwez, principal of International Indian School-Riyadh (IISR), confirmed their schools would remain closed on Sunday. Indian schools will also be closed on Monday because of India’s Republic Day. -arabnews
