Samsung launches Galaxy Tab Iris at Rs. 13,499

South Korean tech giant Samsung on Wednesday launched Galaxy Tab Iris, an Android-based tablet, priced at Rs. 13,499.

“The tablet can be used by agencies using Aadhaar as an authentication mechanism. It can be used for a variety of applications in banking, eGovernance services, etc,” Samsung India vice-president Sukesh Jain told reporters.

‘Made in India’ for use in workplaces

The India R&D team has made significant investments in biometric technology research and this product leverages Samsung’s knowledge in hardware design, biometrics and security for a high speed scan, greater accuracy and high reliability. The company is in discussions with various government departments and corporates to deploy the devices at workplace.

The tablet has ‘Samsung Knox’ enabled with ‘Secure Boot’ that protects it from unauthorised hacking attacks and produces UIDAI-compliant encrypted-iris biometric packets.

Specifications

The tablet features a 7-inch screen, 1.2 Ghz quadcore processor, 1.5GB RAM, 8GB memory (expandable up to 200GB), 5MP rear camera and 3,600 mAh battery. The tablet will run on Android Lollipop operating system.

The tablet has USB “On-the-go host” support that allows you to connect other devices like barcode scanner or a printer. It also supports 14 languages.
