Bhatkal: "Muslims have played a very crucial role in India's independence movement and this movement was actually initiated by Muslims. In the year 1857 itself, more than 24,000 patriotic Muslims sacrificed their lives for the sake of India. Our new generation should be made aware of this information especially the non-Muslims as it will end the misunderstandings among ourselves." This thought was expressed by Moulana Ilyas Jakti Nadvi in a speech competition organized on the topic of "Role of Muslims in India's independence" by Sahil Online in Rabita's Kazia Hasan Hall.
On this occasion, he requested the govt. officials and Muslims leaders present in the function to give permission for such speeches to be given on the occasion of Independence Day and Republic Day functions in which role of Muslims in India's Independence should be mentioned else the new generation of non-Muslims will always hold misunderstandings against Muslims. In the end, Moulana Ilyas stated names from a long list of Muslim martyrs who sacrificed their lives for India's freedom struggle.
Expressing his thoughts on this occasion, Assistant Commissioner of Bhatkal VRP Manohar said that such competitions should be held among children but at the same time competitions should also be organized among students through which students can give suggestions on country's growth and progression.
Speaking on the occasion of the function, Bhatkal MLA Mankal Vaidya said that Hindu, Muslims, Sikhs, Christains, all played an active role in India's Independence but we get to hear only hear only two-three names of Muslim leaders and our new generation develop an understanding that only these leaders participated in India's Independence. While mentioning about the role of Muslims in the Freedom movement of India, Mr. Vaidya stated names of many Muslims who participated in India's freedom struggle.
The competition was held in both Kannada and Urdu languages and the first, second and third prize winners in both the sections were awarded Rs 10,000/-, Rs 7,000/- and Rs 5,000/- respectively. Apart from these, 10 students were awarded consolation prizes of Rs 1,000/- each. A raffle draw was also organized on this occasion which consisted of 6 prizes including two mobile phones.
