Bangalore: Puniyakoti, the famous poem about a cow and a tiger that is part of the Hindi Text Book of Class 8 has been amended to the original climax. Earlier, the previous BJP government during its tenure has modified the ending of the poem to suit its ideology of anti-cow slaughter. In the climax of the story, beef eaters were equated with tiger and beef eating was indicated as an immoral habit. However, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Kimmane Ratnakar told that the original version of the story would be restored. In the original version of poem, a cow, Puniyakoti, is spotted by a tiger and he springs to catch her.But the cow begs for mercy and tells the tiger that her calf is waiting for her to feed it. The cow promises the tiger that she would return back to him after feeding her baby. Keeping her word, the cow returns to the tiger to be eaten. Seeing the honesty of the cow, the tiger feels remorse and jumps off a mountain to die. But the BJP government gave it a different colour and modified it as: the tiger feels remorse for eating beef of a cow as it would kill an honest cow and orphan a calf and thus commits suicide. - Karnataka Muslim
