Rajya Sabha MP Sachin Tendulkar has donated around Rs 76 lakh to a high school in West Midnapore district, West Bengal, to boost its infrastructure. The former cricketer reportedly sent the money earlier this year after staff at Swarnamoyee Sasmal Sikhsa Niketan had requested financial help to improve infrastructure, according to a report in Hindustan Times. The Little Master donated the money under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development scheme. Now, constructions of a library, a laboratory and a common room for girls are underway at the school. The school will invite the retired cricketer for the inaugural ceremony of the new facilities. The 50-year-old school, which has around 900 students, had written a letter to Tendulkar two years ago, divulging their plans for a library room, laboratory and a common room for girls. Six months later, the Rajya Sabha MP responded, saying the funds were being released. “The realisation hasn’t yet sunk in. We have no words to express our gratitude,” the school principal said.
