‘Rs. 157 cr. worth works carried out in 4 taluks’

Karwar, 15 July 2016:Works, worth Rs. 157 crore, have been carried out in four taluks of Uttara Kannada district which have been identified as the most backward taluks by the Dr. D.M. Nanjundappa Committee report on removing regional imbalances, said Venkatrao Ghorpade, chairman, Committee for Implementing Dr. Nanjundappa Committee Recommendations. Chairing an officials’ meeting in Karwar on Thursday, Mr. Ghorpade said that Joida, Bhatakal, Ankola and Siddhapur taluks were among the 114 taluks which have been identified as backward taluks by the committee. Under the special development component, Rs. 170.97 crore had been released in the last eight years and Rs. 157.55 crore had been spent so far. For Joida, the government had released Rs. 38.80 crore of which Rs 36.92 crore have been spent; Rs. 62.06 crore was released for Bhatkal and Rs. 55.24 crore was spent. Of the Rs. 24.81 crore released for Ankola, Rs. 24.71 crore had been spent. Similarly, Siddhapur taluk received Rs. 45.30 crore of which Rs. 40.68 crore had been spent, he said.
