Minister for Transport Ramalinga Reddy on Tuesday announced a grant of Rs. 15 crore for repairing and re-asphalting roads in Peenya Industrial Area. Taking officials to task over the condition of the roads during an inspection of the area, he said that the funds will be released under the Nagarothana scheme. He visited the Peenya II Stage Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus stop. S. Muniraju, Dasarahalli MLA, told the Minister that more than 10 lakh people took buses from Peenya Industrial Area everyday and because there is no bus bay, vehicles are parked on the road near Peenya 14th Cross, leading to huge traffic snarls in the area. He also pointed out that a civic amenity site in the area had been allotted to a private person, which could be re-acquired to build a bus bay. Mr. Reddy directed BBMP Commissioner M. Lakshminarayan to inquire into the case and submit a report if a civic amenity site had been illegally allotted. The Minister promised that he would take steps to provide for a bus shelter and public toilet in the area soon. The Minister also visited a raja kaluve (storm-water drain) where a factory was releasing untreated effluents into the drain. Mr. Muniraju complained that this was a common practice in Peenya Industrial Area. Mr. Reddy said he would write to the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board to conduct a survey in the area and take suitable action. Muniratna, Rajarajeshwari Nagar MLA, and mayor B.S. Satyanarayana were present. -The Hindu
