Rohidas Naik wins Uttara Kannada Kannada Sahitya Parishat poll

BHATKAL / Karwar : Rohidas Naik won the closely and bitterly fought election for the president post of district president of Kannada Sahitya Parishat in Uttara Kannada district on Sunday, performing a hat trick of wins. He defeated his nearest rival Sharada Bhat by 97 votes.

Rohidas Naik got 336 voters and his rivals Sharada Bhat, Aravind Karkikodi and Dr. Sayyad Jameerulla got 239, 216 and 107 votes respectively. There was clamour for change of president this time. Despite this Naik has won the election handsomely. The election of an elite organization was reduced to the fight over personal issues of different candidates who accused one another by holding the press meets.

While Rohidas Naik got highest votes in Kumta, Ankola and Joida taluks Sharada Bhat got major share of votes in Karwar, Siddapur and Yellapur and Haliyal taluks. Whereas Aravind Karkikodi got highest votes in Honnavar, Sirsi and Mundgod taluk. Dr. Jameerulla Shareef got highest votes in Bhatkal taluk.

The voting commenced on Sunday morning and the voting was brisk in almost all the taluks. Total percentage of polling was 60.22 percent. Total 739 male and 159 female voters had casted their franchise in the tahashildar office of respective taluks. Total two votes one in Kumta and the other in Mundgod were invalid.
