Schools, Colleges to remain shut in Uttara Kannada on August 19 due to heavy rain alert

Bhatkal, Aug 18, 2025: Deputy Commissioner of Uttara Kannada, Lakshmi Priya, has announced a holiday for all educational institutions in the district on Tuesday, August 19, following the red alert issued due to heavy rainfall.

According to the order, schools and colleges in Karwar, Ankola, Kumta, Honnavar, Bhatkal, Sirsi, Siddapur, Yellapur, Joida, Dandeli, and Haliyal will remain closed. The closure applies to all Anganwadi centers, government schools, aided institutions, private schools, as well as pre-university colleges, in order to ensure the safety of students.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rain across Uttara Kannada district between 1:00 pm today and 1:00 pm tomorrow.
