Bhatkal: Residents of Bhatkal Taluka are queueing up at the Tahsildar's office from the night in order to apply for Ration cards (coupon). Since the office is able to process only 40-50 applications per day they have no option but to queue up at night.
Since the time government has announced issuance of Rice at 1Rs/kilo for BPL card holders, there is a lot of interest among people to apply for Ration cards. Government too is ensuring that BPL cards are issued only to deserving applicants only.
It may be noted that there are more than 35,000 BPL card holders in Bhatkal Taluka. Ration cards issued in the years 2008-10 require renewal as their records were handwritten and now since the government has initiated the process of computerizing the data, it is required for them to renew the cards by submitting their photos and fingerprints.
Angry applicants have demanded that government provides easy and quick processing of Ration cards.
