Ramdan Crescent Moon sighted in Bhatkal; May 17 to mark beginning of the Islamic holy month

Bhatkal 16 May 2018: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) Jamat-ul-Muslimeen Bhatkal on 16 May Wednesday confirmed the sighting of Crescent Moon of Ramadan in Bhatkal marking the beginning of holy month of Ramadan from Thursday May 17. According to Moulana Khwaja Akrami, Qazi Khaleefa Jamat-ul-Muslimeen Bhatkal, the crescent moon was sighted in Chennai, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and considering it, the Qazis of both the Jamat's decided to declare the beginning of holy month in Bhatkal. In Bhatkal too, efforts were made to sight the crescent but it could not be sighted because of dense clouds. More than 1.5 billion Muslims around the world will mark the month of Ramadan, during which believers abstain from eating, drinking, smoking and having martial relations from dawn until sunset. Muslims are also enjoined to avoid evil thoughts and deeds. Ramadan is sacred to Muslims because it was during this month that the Qur’an was revealed to Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him).
