June 05, 2016 | Correspondent | Bhatkallys News Bhatkal: Ramadan moon has been sighted in Kapad, near Calicut, therefore Monday, June 6, will be the first day of the holy month of Ramadan, announced the qazis of Bhatkal on Sunday evening, shortly before the call to Isha prayers. Taraaweeh prayers were held in all masjids of Bhatkal with religious vigour. In Bhatkal too, efforts were made to sight the crescent but it could not be sighted because of dense clouds. On Monday, people in Bhatkal and nearby areas including Mangalore, Udupi and Kerala will observe fast to mark the first day of Ramadan. More than 1.5 billion Muslims around the world will mark the month of Ramadan, during which believers abstain from eating, drinking, smoking and having martial relations from dawn until sunset. Muslims are also enjoined to avoid evil thoughts and deeds. Ramadan is sacred to Muslims because it was during this month that the Qur'an was revealed to Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him). Bhatkallys.com wishes all its viewers a blessed Ramadan and hopes that this Ramadan brings in abundant blessings and becomes a source of salvation from hellfire and admission into paradise for the entire Muslim ummah. – ARF
