Railway ministry approves early departure for Madgaon-Mangaluru MEMU train

Mangaluru, Oct 14: The Railway Ministry has granted approval to a request from the Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) to adjust the departure and arrival times for Train No. 10107, the Madgaon-Mangaluru Central MEMU (Mainline Electrical Multiple Unit) Express. The train will now leave Madgaon at 4 a.m., departing one hour earlier than the current 5.15 a.m., and arrive at Mangaluru Central at 11.15 a.m., rather than the previous 12.15 p.m. schedule, effective this Friday.

This decision follows a long-standing demand from passengers who were looking for an earlier arrival time for Train No. 10107. The MEMU service was converted to an Express train after the COVID-19 pandemic, replacing the previous Diesel Multiple Unit (DEMU).

The adjusted schedule will be beneficial for travelers from the coastal regions of Karnataka, enabling them to reach their destinations one hour earlier. Hundreds of passengers commute daily from Uttara Kannada and North Udupi to Udupi and Mangaluru for work, healthcare, and education. The train's previous schedule made it inconvenient for these passengers. With the new timetable, the train will reach Udupi at 9.51 a.m., Surathkal at 10.47 a.m., and Mangaluru Junction at 11.48 a.m., improving the convenience for regular commuters.

Although the Railway Ministry has instructed KRCL to implement the new schedule at a convenient date, an official date for the change has not been decided. The implementation date will be determined by the headquarters in consultation with the Southern Railway, which manages the Mangaluru Railway Region.

As of now, there has been no change to the return trip schedule of Train No. 10108, the Mangaluru Central-Madgaon MEMU Express, which currently departs at 3.30 p.m. Some passengers have requested a later departure time to better accommodate those completing their day's work.
