Railway minister to dedicate escalator at Udupi railway station on Jan 18

Udupi: Passenger amenities play a vital role in customer satisfaction. Konkan Railway that is a step ahead in ensuring comfort of passengers travelling over its route therefore has decided to dedicate a new escalator at Udupi Railway station at a cost of Rs 1.30 crore for convenience of its passengers that has been constructed as a part of passenger amenities. Lot of passengers visit Udupi even for pilgrimage and hence this escalator will prove to be a boon to them.
This escalator was constructed within 6 months including construction of steps and dome.
Suresh Prabhu, union railway minister will inaugurate the newly constructed escalator on Monday. Prabhu will dedicate proposed construction of railway siding of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemical Limited which is taking off from Thokur station. This siding is proposed for transportation of solid and liquid products like pet coke, polypropylene, sulphur, bitumen.
 On an average 2,800 MT products per day which is an incremental loading of one million metric tonnes/year is expected to be transported by Railway. With construction of a railway siding, entire product can be loaded in train inside MRPL premises itself. If it is transported by road, it requires multiple handling and road congestion. It is proposed to construct a railway siding in MRPL premises having 1.5-km length with two lines, which will take off from Thokur station.
These two lines siding will comprise of 800 metres with total length of 1.75-kms from the takeoff point at an approximate cost of Rs 46 crore. Construction of this siding will be completed within 24 months.
