Bhatkal: Rabita Society’s prestigious education awards ceremony to be held on July 24

Bhatkal: The well-known ‘Rabita Education Awards’, presented annually by Rabita Society for over three decades to honour academic excellence, will be held on July 24, 2025, at the Anjuman Ground next to Islamia Anglo Urdu High School, Bhatkal. The announcement was made by Rabta Society’s General Secretary, Ateequr Rahman Muniri, during a press conference at the society’s office.

Sharing details of the programme, Muniri said the event will be conducted in two sessions – the morning session will begin first, followed by the second session after Asr prayers. This year’s event will see Dr Saud Alam, Professor at Aligarh Muslim University and an executive member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, attending as the chief guest. Mankal Vaidya, State Minister and in-charge of Uttara Kannada district, will be present as the guest of honour.

Explaining the purpose of the award, Muniri said it aims to encourage students who have secured 95 percent or above in SSLC (Class 10), PUC (Class 12), graduation, and post-graduation. He noted that while this boosts the morale of high achievers, it also serves to motivate other students who aspire to reach such standards.

The Convenor of the Rabita Education Award Committee, Maulana Sabir Ali Akbara, outlined the award selection process. In SSLC, the top three students from Bhatkal’s national and community-based schools who have scored 95% and above will be honoured. In PUC, one topper each from the Arts, Science, and Commerce streams scoring 95% or more will be selected.

At the graduate level, toppers from courses such as BA, BCom, BSc, BBA, BCA, BBM, and B.Ed, and at the postgraduate level, one topper each will be recognised.

Beyond local students, Rabita will also honour outstanding students from the Gulf region and other Indian cities who are pursuing education in various institutions. Students from Jamia Islamia, Jamiatus Salihat, and schools and colleges under the Canara Muslim Khaleej Council who have secured high marks will be eligible under separate categories.

A special award will also be given to the top-performing student in Uttara Kannada district.

According to Maulana Sabir Ali Akbara, this year, around 35 students are likely to be selected for the Rabita Awards. As per tradition, the awards for the Best School and Best Teacher will also be presented during the event.

The press conference concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by MJ Nissar, President of Bhatkal Muslim Jamaat, Muscat.
