Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s nephew was arrested by the Delhi's Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) in in north-west Delhi on Thursday. According to sources in the anti-graft body, the accused, identified as Vinay Bansal, was placed under arrest for his involvement in the scam relating to the construction of drains by the Public Works Department (PWD). Three FIRs had been filed by the ACB in connection with the alleged scam exactly a year ago. The ACB registered the case in 2017 against the company Renu Constructions and named Mr. Vinay Bansal’s father Surender Bansal and others involved in the company’s operations. Surender Bansal passed away soon after he was named in the FIR registered against his company. According to sources in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Mr. Vinay Bansal was picked up from his residence in Pitampura, north-west Delhi around 4 a.m. The FIRs were registered on the basis of a complaint by Rahul Sharma, the founder of NGO Roads Anti-Corruption Organisation (RACO) which alleged irregularities in the grant of contracts for roads and sewer lines in Delhi in 2015-16. The AAP termed the arrest as “motivated and an act of political vendetta.” According to the party, Mr. Vinay Bansal was a dormant partner in the company which is being investigated by the ACB. The ACB was being used to malign the image of Mr. Kejriwal, alleged the AAP. Source: The Hindu
