Protest rally held against construction of mini-hydel project at Venkatapur river

Bhatkal - 29 Aug 2012: A protest rally held here in Bhatkal against the construction of proposed mini-hydel power plant on Venkatapur river at Kodulu village some 12 Km from Bhatkal. On this occasion a memorandum was submitted to Chief Minister through Bhatkal Tahsildar. The rally begun from Circuit House and after passing through Shamsuddin Circle, concluded at Assistant Commissioner's office.

Speaking on this occasion, former Karnataka minister and BJP leader, Mr Shivanand Naik said that if this power plant is constructed, many farmers will lose their agricultural land and the ecosystem around the area will be disturbed. He said he had already raised this issue with Power minister Ms Shobha Karandlaje. He also said, he will not allow this to happen in any circumstances.

On this occasion representatives from several Gram Panchayaths were present.
