Bhatkal - A protest rally was held here at Bhatkal to gather support against the new ruling of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). According to the new ruling all construction activities are banned around historical buildings and monuments within 300 meters radius.
The rally comprising of about 100 people under the leadership of Human Rights Struggle Committee began from Chinnapattana Devasthan and concluded at Shamsuddin Circle. Later the protesters visited Assistant Commissioner's office wherein Committee President Mr Parvez Kasimji submitted memorandum to the Central Govt.
Speaking on this occasion several leaders expressed their resentments over this act and said, if this rule is implemented in Bhatkal, around 20 places will get affected and the people around those places will not be able to repair or do anything to their houses. This will be like snatching basic rights from the public in the name of protecting historical monuments. They also warned against massive agitation if the Govt tries to implement the ruling.
