Prostitution racket busted in Mangalore; BJP leaders held

Mangalore, August 7: Busting a prostitution racket, police have nabbed six persons allegedly engaged in flesh trading at an apartment in the city on Monday evening.

Interestingly, all of the arrested including men and women are said to be local leaders and activists of Bharatiya Janata Party.

Two among the arrested identified as Sandeep Shetty (35) and Dooraiah (35), were active leaders of BJP in Uppinagady and Belthangay region. A black burkha-clad woman, aged around 30 years was also among the arrested. It is learnt that it was the same woman who tied a rakhi on then-chief minister B S Yeddyurappa's wrist during his visit to Mangalore a couple of years ago.

Acting on a tip-off, sleuths of Mangalore South Police raided an apartment 'Adarsh' at Subhash Nagar at around 6:00pm and found seven people -four women and three men- allegedly indulging in prostitution, police sources said.

One among them succeeded in fleeing from the spot while six other were arrested and mobile phones and a cash amount were seized from them, it said.
