This summer break, pre-university (PU) lecturers will turn students to hone their skills in their subjects. However, they will get earned leave as the training will be conducted during the second half of May. Over 12,000 PU lecturers across the State from Science and Commerce streams will now attend a 15-day intense training in their respective subjects. The Department of Pre-University Education has roped in professors from Indian Institute of Science, and other reputed retired professors from the State to hold the training sessions, department sources said. C. Shikha, director of the Department of Pre-University Education, said it was introducing NCERT syllabus for three Commerce subjects – Business Studies, Accountancy and Economics – for first year PU from this academic year.
The translation work for these textbooks have been completed. The training programme is aimed at equipping the commerce lecturers to teach the new NCERT syllabus. The NCERT syllabus is already in force for Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology in the Science stream. However, lecturers from the stream have also been made part of the training programme to brush up their knowledge and teaching skills.
