Bengaluru, Apr 1: The Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) has announced a significant reduction in electricity rates for consumers across the state, coinciding with the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Effective from Monday, April 1, the unit rate of electricity has been decreased by Rs 1.10. This reduction is particularly beneficial for domestic consumers who use more than 100 units per month, with the rate now set at Rs 5.90 per unit, down from the previous Rs seven per unit. Notably, this marks the first decrease in electricity tariffs in Karnataka in 15 years.

However, it is important to note that consumers who utilize less than 100 units per month, as well as those eligible for free electricity for consumption below 200 units, will not be affected by this reduction.

The revised rates are applicable across all Electricity Supply Companies (ESCOMs) in the state.
