Two policemen and a jobless man were charged in the Court of First Instance with break-in robbery and damage of private property. The three men, all Emiratis, are accused of breaking into a villa in Al Barsha while its female owner was away on a trip. The three accused, aged between 22 and 26, allegedly stole 10 mobile phones, 3 tablets and 16 expensive watches and jewellery items, two cameras, and a TV set. They also caused damage worth Dh2,200. "I left the UAE with my family for one week last year and when we came back on September 14, we found that our villa in Al Barsha had been burgled. "The police came and inspected the house. We have been told the thieves jumped the gate and entered by pushing the majlis window. After stealing our valuables, they broke the window of the living room to get out. I first thought it was the driver," the 33-year-old Emirati complainant said. The complainant added she was contacted by the police few days later and told her husband's mobile phone was found with the unemployed accused. "The latter alleged he had found it. But it is untrue as the phone was at our home and it was part of the things they stole," she said. "By tracking the serial numbers given to us by the complainant, we found the thieves. We arrested them and seized the phones. One of them (the policeman) said he bought it from the unemployed accused but the latter claimed he found it," a policeman said. The police then apprehended the third accused (also a policeman). "He confessed the jobless accomplice planned the robbery as an act of revenge against the complainant's family who would not let him marry her sister. He wanted to rob everything valuable inside their house," the officer told the prosecutor. "They wore gloves and with sharp tools managed to break inside the house sometime after midnight after watching the place. They came back later to steal two TV sets. One of the accused sold one of the phones to a shop and provided his ID copy to the salesman". The next hearing is scheduled for March 29.
