Policeman killed another injured while chasing a vehicle

Bhatkal - One policeman killed another injured when a mini-lorry carrying animals hit their bike here at Sultan street, Bhatkal in the early hours today. Locals rushed both the injured cops to Bhatkal Govt Hospital. After getting initial treatment over there, seriously injured cop was taken to Manipal. But he breathed his last on its way to Hospital near Kundapur. The deceased has been identified as Chandrappa Lamani (26) from Haveri.

According to sources, the driver of a mini-lorry bearing registration number KA-20-44806 ignored the warnings to stop at Sarpankatta check-post and continued towards Bhatkal. This prompted the policeman on duty to chase the vehicle. Two policemen started chasing the vehicle on their bike, and when they are about to intercept the lorry, their bike got hit by the vehicle resulting into an accident.

A case has been registered in the rural police station and the search is on to trace the absconding driver. The dead body was sent to his native place, Haveri after paying last respects with full Govt honor at Police Grounds.
