Bhatkal - 23 June 2011: A meeting between police department and people's representatives was held here at IB to discuss about the 'Police Survey' being conducted by the department as a part of police beat system.
During the meeting several questions were raised by the people's representatives and strongly opposed the survey calling it as 'against the basic rights of citizen and violation of privacy.' They asked why this kind of survey is needed and being conducted only in Bhatkal.
On this occasion, Bhatkal CPI Mr Guru Mathur read the circular issued from the office of DIG, Bangalore as a proof to conduct the survery, but to the surprise of the people, nothing was mentioned in the circular about survey. Several people have expressed their deep concern over the survey and said, collecting private information will not going to help police department to prevent crimes and bring people closer to police as it is claimed by the department.
In this meeting, police department has assured the people that they will take further steps only after consulting with their higher officials.
Meanwhile, Tanzeem has appealed the people to boycott the survery and contact Tanzeem or Municipality Councillor if anybody comes to collect information.
