Police seizes Maruti van with beef

Bhatkal - Bhatkal Police on Friday seized a Maruthi van here at Tengingundi Road near water tank and recovered large quantity of beef which is reportedly being transported from Hubli to Bhatkal. It may be noted that, in the view of recent incident in which one constable lost his life, security has been tightened at both Shirali and Sarpankatta check-posts.

On Friday morning when police officials are busy in checking the vehicles at Shirali check post, a Maruthi van suddenly appeared and continued to advance towards Bhatkal ignoring stop signals at the check post. This prompted PSI Manjunath Gowda to follow the vehicle. When driver saw police chasing his vehicle, he jumped out of the van and tried to escape. But, PSI Mnajunath Gowda succeeded in catching the driver, in the process he received minor injuries. The arrested has been identified as Zameer Hubli.
