Kundapur: A man engaged in fish farming (pisciculture) had to suffer losses to the tune of Rs 35 lakhs after miscreants allegedly mixed chemicals into a farming pond here at Hosadu near Arate. The incident was known on Monday morning when the fish pond owner Narasimha had gone to feed the prawns that he had reared here. Reportedly, the buckets used to chemically contaminate the water were found lying near the pond. The prawns, weighing around nine tonnes and ready to be sold had died due to the poisonous substance in the water. While it is not exactly known as to who committed the offense and the reason behind it, the fish pond owner suspects that few persons who wanted to undertake pisciculture in the vicinity may have poisoned his produce as their deal had not gone through. A case has been registered at Gangolli police station. Source: News Karnataka
