Planting 2L saplings in 30 mins, BSF set to enter record books

The barren border outposts on the international border with Pakistan and Bangladesh may soon turn green as BSF personnel on Tuesday set out on a record making effort to plant two lakh saplings in 30 minutes. Over a lakh saplings were planted on the border outposts with Pakistan. BSF personnel are deployed along the 4,096 km India-Bangladesh and 3,323 km India-Pakistan frontiers. Along with hundreds of their counterparts spread across the country, they planted fruit plants, shadow plants and ornamental plants. The whole exercise started at 10 am and ended in 30 minutes. BSF officials said two lakh saplings were planted at all frontier headquarters, sector headquarters, training institutions, battalion headquarters and border outposts, which is a record according to the Limca Book of Records, whose representatives were present at different locations. "Our personnel planted saplings in 1,650 border outposts. It is the first such feat in the history of a paramilitary force,” BSF spokesperson V N Parashar told Deccan Herald. In Delhi, around 7,100 saplings were planted during the campaign. The planting of saplings is part of BSF’s yearly awareness programme to promote preservation of biodiversity.
