Pit line repair work at Mangaluru central, train schedules changed

MANGALURU: Southern Railway (Palakkad Division) will take up major repair work of the pit line at Mangaluru Central yard form November 16 to December 15. In order to facilitate the work, train services will be regulated during this period. Many trains will be cancelled. The service of Train No.22635 / 22636 Mangaluru - Madgoan - Mangaluru Intercity Express will remain cancelled during this period. The train services that will be terminated at or start from Mangaluru Junction instead of Mangaluru Central station during this period are: Train Nos.16565/16566 Yesvantpur-Mangaluru Central-Yesvantpur Weekly Express; Train Nos.17606/17605 Kacheguda-Mangaluru Central-Kacheguda Bi-weekly Express; Train Nos.16855/16856 Puducherry-Mangaluru Central-Puducherry weekly Express (Via. Salem) and Train Nos. 16857/16858 Puducherry-Mangalore Central-Puducherry weekly Express (Via. Erode, Tiruchchirappalli) According to railway officials, Mangaluru Central station has three pit lines of which, the first one can handle maintenance of an 18-coach rake while the other two can accommodate a 24-coach rake. The repair work is proposed on one of these pit lines will be capable of accommodating a 24-coach rake at a cost of Rs 63 lakh. -TOI
