The full text of the memorandum is as follows,
To: Date: 6th Dec, 2012
The Honorable Prime Minister
Government of India
NEW DELHI.
Sir,
Sub: Demanding To “Rebuild Babri Masjid and Punish the Culprits”.
Sir, On 6 December 1992, the Hindutva fascist elements demolished Babri Masjid, the 463 year old place of worship of Muslims in Ayodhya. With it, the ideals and values upheld by the Indian nation were also shattered. The Government was a helpless spectator, the laws of the constitution mere notional writings on paper and the judiciary proved completely ineffective. The demolition was the gravest terrorist attack against independent India after the killing of Mahatma Gandhi. It was the day when India had to hang its head in shame before the entire world community.
By demolishing a masjid, which was used for worship by Muslims for over 420 years, the Sangh Parivar claimed that they have erased off a stain that had been on India for centuries. It meant that Muslims were nothing but a stain on the body of the republic. Hence, it was not just the demolition of a Masjid, but part of an agenda to teach the Muslim community a lesson. The nationwide attacks on Muslims, deaths and destruction that followed demolition was indicator of the political objective of the Hindutva outfits.
Though the main culprits are the leaders of RSS, VHP and BJP, many others were equally responsible for that dastardly act of vandalism. Central government lead by Narasimha Rao, the UP administration, the judiciary, the army, the media, every political party, every leader, all have to share the blame. Sadly, they also fail to learn lessons from that tragic incident. 20 years have passed since then. The assurance given to the nation to rebuild the Masjid was a blatant lie that failed to materialize until now. In fact, the rebuilding of the Masjid and punishing the culprits would only serve justice and restore the faith of millions of upright citizens in the value of republic. This was made clear on the days following the demolition by any intellectuals, secular leaders, media and the people across this great nation. But, Alas! Nothing happens.
All the following three legal processes on different aspects of the issue are still pending for final decision.
1. The case filed in 1961 related to ownership of the Masjid and its premises – After the unjust verdict of the Allahabad High Court to partition the land among three parties, the matter is now before the Supreme Court.
2. The criminal cases filed in 1992 against the culprits responsible for razing of the Masjid – All of the accused roam free without any sense of guilt and fear of punishment.
3. Government action on the report of Justice Liberhan Commission that enquired into the destruction of the Masjid – The UPA Government is not showing political will to take action against those whom the Commission held responsible for the demolition.
Asking Muslims to forget Babri Masjid is an adding insult to injury. Not a single citizen of this great nation, let alone Muslims, will forget Babri Masjid. Forgetting an unspeakable tragedy would only help the growth of communalism and fascism. Our country has witnessed 20 years of betrayal. Justice denied so far cannot be further delayed.
On this 20th anniversary occasion of the Babri Masjid demolition, let all Indians take the pledge together to stand up and strive for justice so as to strengthen the values of secularism and democracy. We demand the Central Government to take appropriate steps to speed up in giving justice and to build the Babri Masjid at the same place at the earliest.
Thanking you,
Yours faithfully,
