Mangalore: A triumvirate of young dentists hailing from Bhatkal and practising in Mangalore, enjoy a pride of place in the port city. Specialists in their fields, Dr. Aftab Damda (son of late Dr. Abdus Sattar Damda), Dr. Imran Mohtesham (son of Usman Mohtesham) and Dr. Mohammed Nooh Kazia (son of Dr. Ismail Kazia) are emerging on dental health scene of the city with rare expertise.
Dr Aftab Damda
Senior-most among the three is Dr. Aftab Damda who specialises in Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics and is a professor at the A. J. Institute of Dental Sciences, Mangalore. He doubles up as a private practitioner and has his own clinic in Falnir area of the city.
Dr. Imran Mohtesham
Dr. Imran Mohtesham is a specialist in oral maxillofacial pathology and is an assistant professor at Yenepoya Dental College, Mangalore. He too has his own clinic at Valencia junction in Mangalore.
Dr. Nooh Kazia
The youngest of the three, Dr. Nooh Kazia is a specialist in Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics and teaches as an assistant professor at the Yenepoya Dental College, Mangalore.
As of now, the three members of the Navayath Community have chosen to serve the people in the State over flying to greener pastures just across the Arabian Sea and earned good name.
According to Dr. Imran, Mangalore is increasingly becoming a hub for the study of dental sciences and is offering high level of dental care as well as maxillofacial surgery. He nurses the ambition of pursuing research in super specialty dentistry. He says the city offers state-of-the- art facilities for experts and specialists.
Dr. Nooh has set his sight on pursuing oral implantology. He says, ''Mangalore could as well be a destination for medical tourism with special reference to dentistry as the city offers expertise in all branches ranging from root canal, cavity filling, capping, bridging or fixing braces. Some effective campaigning in the Gulf countries could attract in potential seekers of dental treatment’, he opines.
Dr. Aftab recommends that an individual should consult a dentist every six months and undergo dental check-up in order to ensure oral health.
These experts are quite conscious of keeping an organic touch with Bhatkal. Dr. Imran and Dr. Nooh keep visiting Bhatkal every alternate Sunday, each taking a turn, to enable the town’s folk to access their expertise.
