Peace meet in Bhatkal ahead of Eid celebrations

Bhatkal, 1 July, 2016 (Bhatkallys News): Reviewing security arrangements and interacting with community leaders and officials from local organizations in Bhatkal, police officials hosted a peace meet in Circuit House on Thursday. K.G Devaraju, Additional Superintendent of Police for the Uttara Kannada District, Karwar chaired the meeting and heard issues from the Bhatkal community representatives. During the meeting, the representatives raised key issues including continuous power disruptions during Ramadan, traffic control and safety and crime. The power disruptions took place during Sehri and Iftar – a time crucial for Muslim families during the holy month. Police officials were also made aware of the inadequate traffic safety arrangements needed to ensure smooth movement of vehicles. Officials from Majlise Islah Wa Tanzeem, Bhatkal’s key socio-political organization informed authorities of their plan to install CCTV cameras in Ramzan Bazaar to monitor crime. Additional SP Devarau noted the festival as an occassion of happiness and briefed the delegation on arrangements made by the police department for the upcoming Eid Ul Fitr celebration. Officials present at the peace meeting included CPI Parshant Naik, Bhatkal Assistant Commissioner Chadanand Wetaray, Tashildar N Bader. Representatives of the Bhatkal community included Dr. S M Syed Saleem, Town Municipal Vice President, Mohiddin Altaf Kharuri, Tanzeem General Secretary, Mohtesham Jan Abdurrahman, Jamatul Muslimeen General Secretary, S.J. Syed Hashim, Rabita Society, Ex General Secretary, Moulana Aziz Ur Rahman Nadvi, representative of Bhatkal Youth Federation, Jilani Siddiqa, Eidgah Committee Joint Secretary, Abdul Rahim, Jali Panchayat member, Shridhar Naik from Asarkeri, Venkatesh Naik and Subhash Gopi.
