Passenger carrying foreign currency worth Rs. 26 Lac arrested at Mangaluru International Airport

Bhatkal 17 Feb 2018: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Mangaluru on Friday arrested a person who was about to take a flight bound to Dubai and was carrying foreign currency worth 26 Lac Rupees concealed in his bags and socks.
The passenger has been identified as Sirajuddin Pallikke Kunhali (39) of Kasargod District of Kerala who was heading to Dubai on an Air India flight.
DRI team working on a tip-off apprehended Sirajuddin and during his frisking currencies comprising US Dollars, Kuwaiti Dinar, Swiss Fran and others were found to be well placed in his baggage and socks in bundles and rolls.
According to a press release by DRI, the total value of the seized currency is 25,82,686 in Indian Rupees and the amount is seized under Customs Act 1962 and RBI guidelines.
Later in the day Sirauddin was produced before principal civil judge (senior division) and chief judicial magistrate, Mangaluru.
During interrogation Sirajuddin has reportedly admitted the crime, and the DRI is hopeful in obtaining some important information relating to foreign currency dealers and Hawala operators from Sirajuddin.
